In oneself lies the whole world, and if you know how to look and learn, then the door is there and the key is in your hand. Nobody on earth can give you either that key or the door to open, except yourself.
My counselling approach is based on Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Mindfulness therapies. So let me explain what that means.
Humanistic therapy, in my case, centres on a person-centred relational approach built on acceptance, working together and being empathic. My aim is to help the client feel more in unison with their sense of Self and this may bring about healing and well-being.
Psychodynamic therapy centres on the analysis and understanding of early childhood relationships and how that may impact on unconscious actions, fears and thoughts, which may have an influence on present day relationships.
CBT has a constructive quality that reflects and uses the way we individually create and construct reality to reach agreed goals. This includes working with metaphor, language and narrative to explore and understand the person's meaning and life approach. Therefore introducing a mind set and adaptive flexible skills of solution focus.
Relaxation Skills is also conducive to the change process in terms of trance and relaxation exercises which can help with stress, anxiety, phobias, depression and many areas of our life.
Therefore my approach focuses on the client's needs, encourages clients to reflect on their unconscious actions, how they were formed and if required to help clients create processes that could affect change in the present.
